Has anyone any experience to share regarding the Urologix, Inc. Cooled
Thermotherapy procedure for BPH?

My (current) Urologist seems to be trying to steer me away from either
PVP or the Holmium Laser Ablation of the Prostate (HOLAP)...

I'm getting concerned enough with this Uro to start looking seriously
for another Urologist; PVP for the most part has done marvelously well
for members of the group....and HOLAP also has a rather good track
record.

TIA!

In my case, it did not work!

Cooled Thermotherapy is another name for the TUMT (transurethral
microwave therapy of the prostate) which is accomplished by many devices
including the Targis and Prostatron systems. You can google any of
those names for more information.

I had Prostatron therapy July 2, 2004 and it helped for a while, but
ended up with PVP October 2005 because the TUMT only cleared about half
of the length of the prostatic urethra. I think it is worth trying, but
you need to consider the fact that a lot of TUMT patients end up with a
PVP or another procedure later anyway. If the TUMT works, you have
attained your objective. If not, then there is always the next step.

Me either. I gave it a try but went PVP a year later.

The TUMT was the most painful.
My thought is that when a Dr. doesn't recommend laser it means he
doesn't have one.

However, the TUMT might be worth the try. They told me 85% success.
Perhaps that means up to 85% relief. Almost nothing for me. Flomax
made me dizzy to the point I would not use it.

Bill,
You an EE? I think I remember seening your post in that group. I
rarely look at that one anymore.

Thank you so very much for your responses! It's now obvious that
either PVP or Holmium is really the best way to go...Can anyone
recommend an experienced and skilled Uro for this in the Soeuthern
Californis area?

TIA!

Dr. David Laub of Santa Barbara and Dr David Reiter UCLA have both
been mentioned here with high scores. Information is available by
searching them on this group.

Yes I am a 55 year old male and had the procedure done several years ago, the problem has returned this time only worse. I do not recomend it

What is PVP? My usband just had the cooled thermotherapy so we will see how this works. He is 78. I'm interested because I would like to ask the urologist about it. Thank you
