Hello: I know certain drugs and over the counter medicines, can affect
urine flow. What about the athsma inhaler Symbicort? They do have a
warning for other inhalers like Spiriva, which can cause urinary
difficulty, and urinary retention. The Symbicort side effects listed
online don't mention anything about urine flow. If anyone has any
additional info please post to the group. Thanks, Corky

If it is a choice between breathing and urine flow, I would pick the former.

Spiriva and many other brochodilators are also anticholinergics which
have the effect of restricting urinary flow. In fact if you have a
patient with both an overactive bladder and asthma an anticholinergic
is the ideal drug. Kills two birds with the one stone so to speak.

Not all bronchodilators are anticholinergics however. The other
classes of drugs used are steroids and beta-2 agonists, neither of
which have the effect of restricting urinary flow. Symbicort is a
combination of both a steroid and a beta-2 agonist, hence there's no
impact on urinary function at all and no need for any warning.

Not a doc so am not familiar with the
classifications of these meds.

Most inhalers and 'cold/allergy' meds can puff
my prostate up, gangbusters.

Have been using Terbutaline (Brethine) as an
erectile, 'knockdown' agent following large
doses of Trimix. It doesn't seem to have any
adverse prostate effects. And, it's an
inexpensive generic.
