I took both at one time for more than 6 months. No change.

I am on Flomax and Proscar, a cousin of Avodart. When I first tried
Flomax, I thought it wasn't helping. But when I stopped taking it, I
noticed a significant difference (symptoms got worse). My symptoms
vary so much from day to day, it's hard to know what's causing what.
But over a couple weeks, it was clear the Flomax was helping. It
wasn't night and day, though... the Flomax didn't cure me... but it
was helping.
After going on the Flomax, I started also taking Proscar. After a few
months, I believe it was helping too. Hard to tell for sure. I was
able to reduce my Flomax dose from 2 pills to 1. According to what
they say, Proscar isn't so much designed to make you pee better as to
shrink the prostate a bit or at least reduce prostate growth. And that
did help me a bit.
All this was about 3 years ago. I'm still on these 2 drugs and holding
my own for now. I think my symptoms are very gradually getting worse,
though. So I will probably need surgery in the next year or so.
I understand that Avodart is a bit stronger acting than Proscar, but I
have not tried it.
