I haven't been able to find a suitable shoe in Running Room, Shoe
Company, or Tootsies. I suspect that it isn't worthwhile checking out
Payless Shoe.

I'm looking for an athletic shoe with the following requirements:

* Ventilated/mesh uppers

* Straight-last

* Black/gray, no neon highlights so that it doesn't attract attention
in the office

* I'm told that it must be "neutral" in motion control / stability
because I will have hard custom orthotics in them

* None of the ball-rolling feeling at the toe that seems to be
desirable for long distance running (I found this in Sauconies & the
Brooks Glycerin 10).

* It should be running-friendly enough that I wouldn't mind dashing
for 20 minutes (more to get to an appointment rather than exercise,
though it serves both purposes)

I like the Mizuno Wave, even though I am told it is not a "neutral
shoe". However, the vertical band on the outer side of the shoe with
the brand emblem creates a pressure point that is painful. Same with
Nike shoes that I've had in the past, though less so. With regards to
the Mizuno, I am told that that non-neutrality, combined with the arch
support of orthotics, may cause my foot to slide to the outside and
aggravate the pressure point caused by the emblem.

Can anyone suggest a shoe that fits the requirements and doesn't have
the vertical bands? Ideally, it should be available in common stores
in Canada (even Ottawa, if possible).

Thanks.
