I too was skittled by a dog. He hit me on the outside of my right knee
causing immediate severe paim and loss of weight bearing capability. A CT
scan showed that part of the top of the tibia had been crushed and a chip
of bone broken off the outside of the bone. The neck of the tibia was also
fractured. This resulted in me having a piece of artificial bone fixed to
the top of the real bone to bring the joint surface back up to the correct
level and the rest of the injury being repaired by the fixing of a plate to
the outside of the tibia.
I was in a full length rigid plaster cast for three weeks and I am now in a
Splint (by this I mean a plaster on my calf and thigh joined by hindges so
my knee but not my ankle can move). I am forbidden to put any weight on it
until the device is removed at the end of Feb 2013. I will have been in it
for 4 weeks by then.
The irony all this is that when we got the dog from a local rescue centre
the poor chap had needed surgery on one of his hind legs. It had been badly
dislocated and the head of the femur had to be removed and a band of muscle
used to hold the joint together. I was told that he had to take it easy for
about two years. He can now run around like a pup and its me hobbling along
behind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
