The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced last week that it
has approved a vaginal contraceptive ring for monthly use. The
prescription device, named NuvaRing, is a 3-inch polymer ring
containing the hormones etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol, similar to
the hormones found in some oral contraceptives. After a woman inserts
the device, it provides her with a continuous low dose of the active
ingredients for 21 days.
This week at HealthGate (at http://www.delphi.com/hg-womenshealth),
we're talking about the new device and if it will gain widespread use.
