I was put on Evista for osteoporosis, in preference to Fosamax,
because I have a hiatal hernia, and doc. and I both feared gastric
complications.

However, at the end of a year, I had not only not regained bone mass,
but the loss had continued.

Absolutely terrified at continued bone loss, , I started on Fosamax,
and have had zero, zilch, nix, nada, no gastric problems. Of course I
follow strictly the instructions not to lie down after taking it.

Will not know whether it's doing any good re: arresting bone loss
until my next bone scan in a few months.

Here's hoping...!

Hi, I've been on Evista since April. It used to give me hot flashes, but I
switched it from evening to morning which seems to help. Now I still get
warm and perspire excessively from the medicine I take for chronic pain. I
also stop taking it for 72 hrs before a period of inactivity like a long
drive. My doctor didn't tell me about this, but an exercise physiologist in
an osteoporosis group did. I later found the same info on the Evista
website. BTW, I don't have osteoporosis, I'm taking it as a preventative as
I refused HRT,my elderly mother has it, and I'm at high risk because of
years of steroid use.

Do you have any specific questions about it?
