" I agree with the other posters-- she has drugs around a 4 year old,
has a bunch of teenagers skipping school in her house, and she keeps
her kids? DCF is one of the worst run agencies in this state, now I
see why-- the ones in control of having a child taken away, are
selling the drugs to some one else. Real nice system... "

FARMINGTON — A state Department of Children and Families employee was
arrested on drug and risk of injury charges Tuesday after narcotics
officers allegedly found $10,000 worth of cocaine in the home she
shared with her 4-year-old and 16-year-old children, police said.

Leshan Hanson, 32, of 11 Greenbriar Drive, has been put on
administrative leave pending an agency investigation, DCF spokesman
Gary Kleebatt confirmed.

Hanson is a social worker with DCF and may face disciplinary action
pending the outcome of the agency’s investigation, he said.

Hanson and Douglas Bailey, 25, of the same address, were arrested
Tuesday after Farmington Narcotics Response Team officers executed a
search warrant at their home.

The address had been under investigation for illegal drug activity for
weeks, Lt. Marshal Porter said. When police arrived Tuesday morning
they found several teens ages 15 and 16 with small amounts of
marijuana inside the home. All were skipping class at Farmington High
School, police said. Three were referred to juvenile authorities.

A search of the address revealed 79 grams of cocaine placed in dozens
of vials in a closet, Porter said. The street value of the drugs was
estimated to be close to $10,000.

DCF was notified about the risk of injury charges but the children
were in Hanson’s custody as of last night, Porter said.

Hanson and Bailey were charged with risk of injury to a minor,
possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of
narcotics. Hanson was released after posting $25,000 bond. Both are
scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court March 16.

" Who's in charge here? of the DCF hiring? Don't they give these
people drug and background checks? I know if I reprimanded my children
to hard, let alone slap or beat them, DCF is right on your door step
to have you arrested and take your kids from you. She has a 4 year old
in the house with over 2 1/2 ounces of cocaine, and teens skipping
school smoking pot, and they are still in her custody? released? on
just a 25,000 bond. Her bond should have been 250,000. If I slapped my
kid, my bond would be 30,000. What the !@#$% up with the system? Boy
if walls could talk. Our State (Connecticut) one of the smallest, Has
the Governor in Prison, three Mayors, and a 4th knocking on the
door. And our Dept of Social Services (DCF) to protect our children are
failing us too!! I'm sure they are all not bad, but screen these
people better before they get hired. Hopefully it was her companion
that put her at risk,But with her job you would think she should know
better? Just another bad situation. Oh Well!! "

"investigation"?, a raise and a better desk job? "

" Guess her $80,000 a year job with platinum benefits (and just a high
school education) was not enough to keep her in the manner to which
she was accustomed. Administrative leave and with pay? Only in the
public sector can you be that pampered. Even if she is fired, she will
not have to repay anything received while on leave...and it is most
likely that her union will file a lawsuit (and win) to get her
reinstated with back pay and benefits -you just wait and see. Probably
even more then that if she is guilty because of her pain, suffering
and, of course, the mitigating circumstances (like the devil) that
made her do it.

Yes, her children should be removed from her custody and that
residence and placed in foster care, just like they would have been
for anyone who wasn't a DCF worker. Then make her go through the
months, if not years, of agony trying to get her children back whether
INNOCENT or guilty....again, just like ordinary people do. "

" OK, let's not forget that if she admits to an addiction problem and
goes for treatment, she'll get her job back. And it's not just the
people we trust to look over the welfare of our children.....it's also
the people we trust to look over our nursing home parents. It is not
uncommon for a nurse to abuse painkillers they have access to in the
nursing homes and they get away with it by falsifying medical records
and saying they gave them to the patients. They get caught, get
suspended for 6 months for treatment, then get reinstated and have
access to those same painkillers within 2 years. Why don't we just
hire pedophiles as teachers...oh, wait, I think we do that too don't
we? "

" DCF is part of the cause for children growing up with no respect for
authority in the home or for the law. In the 5th grade I disrespected
a teacher and got cracked right across the face. The last thing I
would do was tell my parents or I'd have gotten another backhand for
disrespecting the teacher in the first place.

Kids who use DCF as an ace in the hole grow up thinking their parents
can't touch them. Then they hit the streets thinking the law can't
touch them either

DCF's role in the community needs to be more closely monitored perhaps
by people with children. Decisions should be made by more than one
person's perception of an abusive situation. DCF should not be allowed
to just come into a home and throw its 98 pounds around doing more
harm to the kid's future than good. With the way they've been screwing
up lately, I think the whole department needs a shakeup from the top
down. "
