Life is Being A Great Growth Experience but physically I am doing wonderful all
thanks to LONG TERM ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY & Mepron too!!!!!!!!!!
Boy I thought I was getting NOWHERE on Mepron but I was wrong.

Mepron for 9 or so months now.
Been in treatment 2 & 1/2 years.
First year no culminative improvement just continued progression on orals.
I was totally sick, bedbound, neuro problems, weakness, chorea, vomitnig, etc
9 months of IV Rocephin was WONDERFUL.
Now I am on Doxy & Mepron.
I have B & E & Lyme.
Time matters*)!!!!

Sarah, and anyone who has taken Mepron (Atovaquone),
I started Mepron (Atovaquone) 2 and a half weeks ago + a French macrolide,
Josamycin, (to replace the zithromax which I could not stomach, constant
diarrhea and gut cramping). I started at 1/4 of the full dose which is
supposed to be 750mg X2 day. I went up to 1/2 the full dose after a few
days, and at the end of the first week since the start of Mepron tx I was a
TOTAL WRECK: bedbound, totally prostrated, every cell in my body terribly
tight and painful unable to do ANYTHING AT ALL (not wash one plate, not fold
a T-shirt nothing!), I cried uncontrolably at the SLIGHTEST demand I made on
myself, my face pathetically twisted in an expression of extreme suffering
which I could not control. In fact last Thursday night I was SERIOUSLY
considering killing myself (been there several times already but last
Thursday (2 weeks into tx) was the worst I have been so far, it ressembled
the way i was 2 1/2 years ago when I started tx with doxy (100mg per day
only!).
I have never been a heroin addict but I imagine that anyone looking at me
would've sworn I was going through withdrawal symptoms. Except that with
heroin withdrawal hell only lasts a few days!
I halved the dose (back to 1/4 of the full dose) and I gradually returned to
the more ordinary type of hell i am more used to ie: housebound and still
spending a lot of time in bed but able to do a minimal amount of things at
homel ike a bit of cooking.
I know Dr B and others have talked about Mepron causing Herxes (actual
reason unknown apparently) but has anyone experienced such a SEVERE reaction
with Mepron? I know one other European who has taken Mepron with a pretty
bad on-going reaction.
I have been suffering badly with meningitis/encephalitis, vertigo, heart
arrhythmiae, heart stopping at night etc since 95, treated since 99.
+ for Bb and both Ehrlichiae at Bowen's (husband + for Bb, Ehrlichiae AND
babesia)

Yes I have gone though what you are going through.
I have had three rounds of medpron each time the same
exsperience but with the herx effect getting less severe
with each round.
Hot Baths and mild streching help with the overall body pain.
Hang in there.
