An elderly female patient was hospitalized with melenema. She was scoped the next
day and bleeding duodenal arteriovenous malformations were found and
constricted via Epinephrine injection through the endoscope.

Is there any way of preventing bleeding in the future? Can Prilosec and
Carafate be of help?

Should she be permanently on a bland diet? Or can symptoms recur
spontaneously, no matter what?

This patient has no predisposing factors (never smoked, drank, no h/o PUD,
except for her age (85) and is otherwise in very good health

I'd be very grateful for any feedback!
