You will need to overcome the insulin resistance (IR/MetS) first.

The only way to do this is by losing the bad inside fat (visceral
adipose tissue of VAT).

Truly, it is only when we are hungry (stomachs singing and laughing
loudly) that our bodies get rid of the VAT.

The only way to become hungrier (healthier) is by eating less, down to
the optimal amount.

Thanks for all the replies. I think the ketogenic aspect most likely.
I am fine day to day but 3 days in a row of surfing plus hiking in and
out to surf spots and I was whipped. Did eat a bit of carbs after on
3rd day (coconut curry soup w/ sweet potatoe in in) and that
definitely perked me up some. I am very lean and probably already am
in Dr Chung's 2 pound club. I was eating, not a high carb diet, but
more than I should when I discovered insulin resistence. I may indeed
have to carry a bit of glucose wafers etc for a quick load right
before exercise; at least until my inuslin resistance improves and I
can eat some carbs and keep bg where it ought to be. One interesting
effect of this has been that my fasting bg last two days is about 10
points lower than it was, perhaps due to depleted glycogen so no
reserves during sleep.

Thanks again
Geoffrey

Please be aware that the aforementioned Dr. is indeed a quack.

But just curious. How do you know that you have insulin resistance?

If you remain insulin resistant, you still have VAT.

This typically is hardly noticeable when the hips are narrow (less
than 35 inches).

Would suggest you consider weighing your meals in order to eat less,
down to the optimal amount (32 ounces per day) and to change your diet
to foods that do not fill you up (ie your favorite) to become
healthier (hungrier) than ever.

If your WHR (Waist to Hip Ratio) is high (more than 0.85 for men and
more than 0.75 in women, you still have VAT even if you look very
lean.
