The fallacy that 0.999... and 1 are the same number continues to be propagated by the BIG STUPID (mainstream academics). It is important for aspiring young students of mathematics to understand why this is false. It is wrong for many reasons, but the root cause is that mythmaticians still do not understand what is a number. They have never understood. Sadly, most are incapable or too brainwashed to reach a knowledge of the truth.
