You would think that a distinguished professor of mathematics (Gilbert Strang from MIT) would behave in an ethical way, wouldn't you? Well, over the period (June 2014-November 2015), Prof. Strang has accused me, John Gabriel, of being a terrorist, defamed and libeled me in numerous posts on the Usenet Newsgroup via sci.math.

Below follows an email I sent to the president of MIT reporting Prof. Strang's behaviour. What truly astounds me is the amount of time and effort academics are spending in trying to discredit and destroy my reputation.

If the New Calculus is so harmless and free thought is encouraged by the academic bourgeoisie, then why such dictatorial actions on their behalf?

It seems that Strang may have apologised in a comment here on sci.math, however, the damage has been done and as a result of his actions, he has incited others to follow suit.

It is shocking that in this day and age, one cannot share ideas on the internet without being targeted by the academic illuminatti. Without further ado, here is the letter describing Strang's actions:

Dear Mr. Reif,

It is my understanding that Prof. G. Strang (hereafter referred to as GS) is a member of the faculty of mathematics at MIT.

I bring the following information to your attention:

1. GS posts comments on USENET through the popular sci.math forum newsgroup.
2. GS has made some very serious accusations about me - one that amounts to felony in US law: he has accused me of being a terrorist. He has made numerous allusions to me being placed on a No-Fly-List.
3. GS has collaborated with others in death threats against me and a conspiracy to effect a contract murder.
4. GS has libeled me repeatedly on sci.math:
(a) He has attributed several incurable mental diseases to me.
(b) He has accused me of lying, immorality and racism.
(c) He has repeatedly trashed my discussions with others by using foul and
inappropriate language for an individual in his position.
(d) I suspect he has participated in activities involving forged headers
either directly or indirectly (most probably the latter as he is not
very competent when it comes to IT). A forged header is used to post
spurious comments, that is, comments with the names and credentials of
individuals who did not write the same.
5. GS has been harassing me for approximately one year using the alias Port563 on sci.math and earnestly inciting others to do the same. Even after repeated pleas for him to cease and desist, he has mercilessly made defamatory remarks about my intelligence, morality and upstanding character.
6. GS has tried to coerce me into committing suicide.
7. GS has spread misinformation about me to his colleagues at MIT and other prestigious universities in the US, UK and Europe.
8. GS has systematically embarked on a crusade to label me as a crank or delusional mental patient. He has often made references to psychiatric circumstances and accused me of being a criminal.

I am wondering Mr. Reif, where does GS find the time for all these activities, given that he is a lecturer at your organisation? Also, it stuns me that an institution with as much prestige as yours, can hire a morally decadent individual such as GS? Are you aware that this reflects on MIT as a whole?
I am considering all my legal options at this time. I hope that you will do whatever it takes to ensure that GS discontinues this sort of behaviour. In fact, terminating his tenure would amount to a slap on the wrist in my
opinion.

You could start by issuing an apology on behalf of MIT.
