What happened to the Spanish ordinal numbers?

Huh. Looks like Spanish doesn't have ordinal numbers. It's striking
for 20+, but already in the single digits, things are starting to
look iffy. Not sure about "cuarto" and "quinto", but "sexto" and
"séptimo" are so not Spanish.

I mean, there _are_ ordinal numbers, but they are clearly borrowed
from Latin and only indirectly related to the Spanish cardinal
numbers.

Portuguese looks similar. (Catalan patterns with French instead.)

What happened there?
