It has been suggested by an acquaintance that the old joke about "hung
chow" being Chinese for "constipation" is more than just a joke; i.e., at
least one dialect of Chinese uses those phonemes for that very concept. Is
this true, and if so, where could I verify it conveniently? A web search
reveals nothing, and the college's Chinese-English dictionaries are
remarkably silent on the matter. I don't read this newsgroup very often,
so please forward your replies by e-mail. Thanks in advance for your
input.

The Mandarin dialect as spoken in Taiwan usually used "bian mi" to
refer to constipation. I've never heard of the "hung chow" expression.
