I was informed from several sources about number of jobs posted on my free
Yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tr_jobs
lately by translation agencies, who do not pay.
There is no way for me to check the reputaion of agencies/customers,
advertising jobs. If something sounds too good to be true, it
probably is. If you are the new translator on the block and new
agency is giving you big job with tight deadline without any testing
or questions, there is a probability you may work for free.
Please, always check the reputation of all agencies you work for the
first time, or for whom you didn't work for a long time, on the list
and sites below, which deal with this issue.
Here is partial list:

For free Payment practices information, please visit Payment
Practices home page -

Inquiries - http://www.trwenterprises.com/pp_inquiry.htm
Subscription - http://www.trwenterprises.com/Subscribe_PP.htm
Another source is Payment practice list, moderated by Laura Hastings.
Subsription for this list is $12 per year.More info at

Another place is TCR (http://www.tcrlist.com/),
or Transpayment
http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/transpayment
or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WPPF)
and ProZ (www.proz.com). All of them have a database of our opinions
about
agencies, and you can post a query about any agency.
If you want to check on some agencies, join Transpayment list at
http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/transpayment
There is a rather busy international list called transpayment on
smartgroups, run by Peter Erfurt (to subscribe, send a blank e-mail
to:
transpaymen...@smartgroups.com)
Another option is the WPFF list run by Reino Havebrandt (to
subscribe, send a blank e-mail to:
WPPF-su...@yahoogroups.com or add the list via the yahoogroups
site).
For German agencies / companies, the best place to ask is
zahlungspraxis,
formerly known as zahlungsmoral - they had to change the name when
they
moved to yahoogroups, but it's the same list (to subscribe, send a
blank
e-mail to: zahlungsprax...@yahoogroups.com or add the list
via the
yahoogroups site).

Take care, make $$$ and get paid (-:

Dear Radovan,

Please note that www.gotranslators.com has also started its own "black
list" of bad payers.

But it's not all negative. Members are also encouraged to enter
positive ratings ;-)

I don't know too much about their system (I just happened to look at
it the other day), but go and check it out.

Regards,
