だらけ
(2)そのものが一面に付いているさまを表す。まみれ。
「どろ―の服」「血―になる」
まみれ
他の語の下に付いて、そのものがべったりついてよごれる意を表す。
「ほこり―」「血―の男」
(The Koujien also gives 泥まみれ as an example).
So it seems there's some overlap there. But do others see a palpable
difference between the two? Also, can だらけ be used in a positive
context? The Koujien gives an example (from the 日葡) of 学文だらけ,
and I wonder if that's supposed to be a マイナスイメージ type of thing
or not.

For me they are not so similar...
-darake is used when something (negative) is "everywhere".
At least, quantatively the speaker feels too much.
-mamire, is about the status, mamireru is close to magireru,
that something (negative) are "mixed", "surrounded with", "covered with"...
In other word, -darake is used in wider situation, like mojibake-darake,
romaji-darake, anime-otaku-darake, "nihonjin"-darake :o
To be romaji-mamire, you would need a cloth printed with romaji. :)
If they are used with マイナスイメージ type of thing or not, I think
yes, but the word itself doesn't exclude the usage without マイナスイメージ,
for example, (maybe a bad example), but, for someone who's trying diet,
もう、おいしいものだらけで困っちゃうね。

Aren't you the soap opera guy? I recently found out that a girl I went
to college with is now a regular on "General Hospital".

I suppose so...I watched General Hospital for some years, although I
no longer do since I don't live in the US anymore (and I think that
I'm unlikely to start again when I go back; the show had sunk pretty
low when I left.)

What's her name? If she joined in the last year I probably don't know
who she is.

Natalia Livingston, who plays the role of Emily Quartermaine. According
to a web search, she joined the cast in April 2003.

Ah, OK. She had tough shoes to fill; the role of Emily had been
played by one actor from the time she was 12 to 18 or so (Amber
Tamblyn, who's now on "Joan of Arcadia").

I had such a crush on her in college. I found out about her being on the
show when I was watching a bank of TVs at the gym. It took me a moment
to recognize her since she had short hair in school. Now I set TiVo to
record it because chances are pretty good of seeing her in her underwear
at least once a week.
