A question has popped up about むっくり and its
meaning. Most references say it means "abruptly",
but a few such as 大辞林 say "やおら". Which is it?

Meanwhile daijs says it's somewhat slower than むっくと, which daijs
gives as 「急に勢いよく起き上がるさま」. So that could be quickly (just
not quite as quickly), or slowly.

Because in the sense of "mukkuri",abruptly and reluctantly are mixed.

all say that むっくと means the same as むっくり.

Both, depending on the observer's perception of the phenomenon.

When the bread dough leavens, you can describe the sight
as the dough mukkuri okiagaru, so 'mukkuri' can be either
taken to be 'abruptly' or 'slowly', subject to how observers
see the occurrence.

As you see, the original meaning of やおら is slowly, silently, but now
many people
use/understand as fast speedy motion. I think, むっくり is slow and round,
and so
think it corresponds to original meaning of やおら.

Thanks, muchan and everyone. I think the approach is to put in both "abruptly" and "slowly", and mention the latter is the original meaning.
