* When selecting Elevation Plot of stored tracks, the unit sometimes
poweroffs
* Using trackback, alarms does not sound when approaching turns
Enhancements
* When turning on the unit on a new location, it makes an annoying straight
line between the previous track point and the new
* Add timezone selections for Europe
* More intelligent track log rutine? 300 km on my motorbike used 2500
trackpoints in "least often" mode. Also: saving this log to the 250 point
capacity stored log returned erroneous lines in the track plot
Bad translations (Norweigan language):
* In Setup map display, both orientations track up and course up are
translated with "kurs opp"
* Bearing and heading are both translated as "kurs"

I agree.. Had it happen. Thought I was doing something incorrectly..
2. Be able to toggle track recording on and off from the first menu that
comes up when you hit the menu button when on the map page. Now you have to
go up through the main menu and then way down...
3. Be able to select from a tab on the main menu|setup tabs to either change
the page order when using the page/quit buttons, and/or just plain be able
to turn off pages. I never use some of them (like Active Route), but I
still have to page through them (and with the 76S there's getting to be a
lot of pages).
4. My 76S keeps turning on when it is rolling around in my backpack in the
Garmin canvas case. I don't know if it would help, but it might be better
to have to hold the power button a little bit longer before the unit comes
on. Sort of like the length of time you have to hold the power button to
get the unit to go off.
When the current number of tracklog "points" are exhausted, an alarm should
sound. With this modification, you can save the existing track, and start a new
one, and retain a continuous tracklog for a considerable distance.

1) Load/Store parameter sets:
The parameter settings on my GPS are quite different from land to sea. When
I'm using the GPS on sea I load BlueChart maps, set MapSetup to sea, use
Nautical units, display position in Lat/lon, and other marine parameters
like VMG, course, track etc. When I'm using the GPS on land I load
MetroGuide maps, set MapSetup to land, use Metric units, display position in
UTM, and other parameters like Elevation, Speed, Moving Avg Speed etc. I
want optimal performance on my GPS both on sea and land, so it's a lot of
setup work to do. It would be nice to have a "Store parameters" and "Load
parameters" function where it is possible to store up to ~10 parameter sets.
2) Nautical units and feet:
When the Unit setting is "Nautical" distances and map units below 0.1 NM are
in feet. It would expect it to use meters since I have Elevation and Depth
settings in "Meters".
3) Stored tracks
Stored tracks are condensed and the date/time information in lost. I guess
this is done to save memory, however I think it should be an option to save
tracks without information loss.

Add a compass tape view "à la" 12XL on the whole 76 and upcomping 72 family.
Aren't they "marine" GPS units (why a highway page)?

Garmin sez that mariners prefer a 'highway' page to a course
deviation indicator... We'll have to leave that explanation
to the news group and let them 'vote' on it...

Yes, the nomenclature is rather non-intuitive. I find that the
'Compass' page is most useful when driving and the 'Highway' page is
most useful when boating. In addtion to being able to see the real
highway when driving, it also doesn't consist of straight line segments
connecting waypoints the way the 'Highway' page shows. OTOH, when
boating I can plot a course that follows such straight line segments.

They could offer both and let users decide; personnally, while sea kayaking, I
find this CDI much closer to what I actually see on my compass next to my GPS. I
made this remark concerning the highway page because I find it odd a so-called
"marine" unit has a highway page but nothing that resembles a marine compass
display while the GPS 12, a non-"marine" unit, had a compass tape display - go
figure. Didn't the GPS 45 have such a compass tape display?

Well, thank God it doesn't involve roundabouts ;-)

Think of it this way: the "Highway" page gives you a virtual highway to
follow when there is none actually present - for marine or air
navigation. If you're on a road, you don't need a virtual highway,
you've got a real one to drive on.

I use neither the "highway" page nor the deviation indicator for aviation or
boating. I use the map display for better situational awareness.
Those old paradigms sure are hard to break!

I've divided the list into BUGS, MISSING FEATURES and ENHANCEMENTS.
I've also included some MAPSOURCE ENHANCEMENTS which would be useful.
BUGS:
- Sometimes when displaying a saved track profile the unit will
shutdown. This happens most often in the US (EDT, English units) and
I don't think ever happened in Spain (GMT -200, metric units).
- When running in battery saver mode there would often be Satellite
loss even while receiving many strong Satellite signals.
MISSING FEATURES (generally from GPS III Plus):
- Battery timer.
- Trackback conversion to a route (I find this very useful for
initially generating routes). Even just enabling route copy on a
Trackback route would be suitable.
ENHANCEMENTS:
- A way to easily reset the Battery timer would be useful. The GPS
III Plus was a little awkward to reset the batter timer if the unit
didn't detect the battery change correctly.
- The new Track save options which allow some degree of selection of
the time frame are good. Saving the Tracklog since midnight is very
useful. The currently presented times of the last two Satellite syncs
are not very useful. I would find the last two power on times more
useful. In addition, having an option to save the Tracklog since the
last save would be very useful.
- The Clear Track dialog should default to YES instead of NO.
- 25-50 saved tracks would be very desirable. I have much less need
for the much larger active Tracklog and would gladly sacrifice 3000 of
the additional active Tracklog points for 12 additional saved Tracks.
With the considerable additional memory on this unit I would hope even
more saved tracks would be available. On my recent trip I needed to
take a laptop with me to download saved tracks mid trip whereas having
25 saved tracks would have eliminated this need.
- I would like to see an option to set the date format used for saved
tracks. I would much prefer a date of the form YYYY-MM-DD over the
current DD-MMM-YY form. The current form does not sort very well when
accumulating a large number of saved tracks.
MAPSOURCE ENHANCEMENTS:
- More detail and control on the elevation plots would be useful.
Putting the scale on the side and bottom of the plot itself would be
good. Adjusting the size of the elevation plot would also be useful.
- A method to export elevation plots to .bmp or similar files would be
very useful.
- A method to export map with routes displayed would be very useful.
- It would be desirable to be able to import files which where
exported in .txt format. This would allow some external processing of
the data to be reimported into Mapsource.
- The "bicycle" routes generated by Mapsource seemed to still use
busy roads instead of close by smaller roads (Metroguide Europe).
- It is nice that Mapsource lets you install selected map data
directly onto the hard drive. However, it would be desirable to still
be able to use the CD for occasional casual use of other map data.
- Even at the highest level of detail sometimes the displayed map
includes too little detail. I specifically notice this in northwest
Spain (Metroguide Europe) where the number and size of roads is small.
- I found the extended POI and City search capabilities rather awkward
in Mapsource. It would be very nice to limit the search to the
currently displayed map area. It also would be helpful to allow
substring searches.
