Is the Garmin GPS12 PC Interface cable (010-10164-00) compatible
with the eTrex PC Interface cable (010-10268-00) or do they
output two different voltages to the GPS?

PC interface cables do not supply power at all to the gps. There is a
combination cable that does that and it supplies 8V to the 12 and 3 V to
the etrex. The connectors are completely different so even the data
cables are not interchangable.
