Tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning September 1, 1998. The
Department of Geography seeks a full-time PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHER with
demonstrated teaching and research interests in ENVIRONMENTAL geography.
Research/teaching interests should include (but not necessarily be limited
to) water issues (such as water resource management, surface/groundwater
hydrology, or Great Lakes environments). The candidate must demonstrate a
willingness to incorporate regional environmental issues and culturally
diverse perspectives in teaching and research. The successful candidate
will be expected to teach a course in ENVIRONMENTAL APPLICATION IN GIS.

PhD in Geography (or closely related field) required by 3/1/99. University
teaching/TA experience and evidence of effective communication skills
required, as well as a demonstrated potential for departmental, College and

faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning with the
1998-1999 academic year. Candidates should have a PhD in Information
Science, Computer Science, or a related field, with teaching and research
interests in the area of database management systems with possible
application to object-oriented systems, client-server systems, systems
security, geographic information systems, information retrieval,
knowledge-based systems, or database design. The position is within the
Department of Information Science and Telecommunications, which has 18
faculty members and offers doctoral, masters and bachelors degrees in
information science and masters and doctoral degrees in telecommunications.

Applications are being accepted for appointment as a Research Assistant
Professor or Research Associate Professor to design and carry out a
long distance geographic information science program in the Department
of Geography. Under the direction of the GIS Lab Director, the successful
candidate will be responsible for the final design and teaching of a
graduate-level program consisting of semester-length long distance
courses and a three-week summer field course at the Wrigley Marine
Science Center on Santa Catalina Island. The initial appointment is for
12 months (renewable, subject to availability of funds and performance).

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and have research
and teaching interests in the theory and application of geographic
information technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to
collaborate with GIS experts at other UNIGIS Network sites and with
colleagues across disciplinary boundaries at USC. UNIGIS is an
international network of universities cooperating in the design and
delivery of distance learning in GIS. The successful candidate will also
have the opportunity to participate in the continued development of the
USC GIS Laboratory, which includes research and teaching facilities for
GIS, cartography, remote sensing, and environmental modeling.

Planning & Development Department. Requires graduation from an accredited

graduation from a senior high school supplemented by training in computer
aided drafting and design; and three (3) years of related and increasingly
responsible experience with computer aided drafting and design equipment.
Work involves support of the creation and maintenance of multiple
Geographic Information Systems. Experience with Intergraph Microstation
CAD package, NT operating system and Arcinfo/Arcview Geographic Information
System is preferred.
