I have a GSP 76 that I purchased recently to replace the 48 that had a
dead lithium battery. Often when I have it on for a while, sometimes
only minutes. It displays a vertical line on the screen and seems to be
hung. Nothing short of removing the batteries will bring it back. Odd
thing is that I also have a Etrex legend that did the same thing the
other day. Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on? Even the
power buttons don't work when this thing fails.

Thanks,
Jim.

Reloading the software is a first step.

I had the same problem with a GPS72 and emailed Garmin support about
it.

The problem is apparently related to the new WAAS satellites, and, for
the 72 at least, there is new firmware available which should cure the
problem. (I just upgraded my 72 this morning, and haven't had a chance
to try it yet...)

Go to http://www.garmin.com, and look for firmware updates for your
unit.

Thanks! I knew this group would have all the answers.
