I am looking for a GPS with moving map that can be temporarily
installed in a car.
I am looking at the Garmin V or maybe a GPS solution to a Pocket PC.
Which alternative is considered best and how does it work in practical
compared to a navigational tool that comes with the car?

Martin, take a look at our site for review of PocketPC & PDA GPS Systems.
We hope to add a comparison review of the StreetPilotIII / PocketPC Nav
Systems soon.

Depends on where you live. For Europe I can recommend TomTom Navigator
Software, a Casio E-200 and a Pretec CompactGPS CF-card with external
antenna. No wishes left for me.

FWIW, I've been playing with a Sony NR70V and a Garmin Etrex. The NR70
gives a good big bright display and I can put the Etrex where it gets
good signal and then not worry about it.
With Mapopolis I get good response and coverage, but it's routing, while
quite responsive, doesn't give me a particularly well optimized route--
it will quite happily route me down a cowpath when there is a parallel
Interstate 200 yards away. With Delorme XMAP Handheld I get a good deal
of flexibility and a lot of detail that's not there in Mapopolis, and
the routing is much better optimized, but on the Sony it takes much
longer to find a route. Perhaps this situation would be improved with a
PocketPC or one of the new ARM based Sony NX models.
Haven't played with the SP3.

I actually use it as a backup to my Infiniti G35 gps system. The maps are
more detailed with Pocket Co-pilot. For about the same $ as the Garmin
system you can have a Pocket PC that will perform many duties, is more
easily upgraded and provides excellent navigation capabilities.

That sounds really interesting!
I use a Garmin Vista for hiking and biking and a PPC with TomTom Navigator
for car routing! I'm satisfied with both.
