Research Professor in Water Science (Faculty Position)

The Centro de Estudios del Agua (Water Studies Center) at Tecnológico
de Monterrey (or: Monterrey Tech) offers a challenging opportunity for
research, lecturing and postgraduate supervision in the strategic area
of Water Sciences at Assistant/Associate Professor level.
Monterrey is third largest city in Mexico and the capital city of the
northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León near Texas. The city is a
modern industrial and business center. The metropolitan area of
Monterrey has a population of 3.8 million. Monterrey Tech (http://
www.itesm.edu/) is one of the largest (over 90,000 students, 33
campuses) and leading private technological universities in Mexico and
Latin America. It has one of the top graduate business schools in the
region and is leader in patent applications among Mexican
universities.
The Centro de Estudios del Agua (http://www.mty.itesm.mx/dia/centros/
cea/) is carrying out applied research and development projects for
government, industry, and other institutions/associations in Mexico
and other countries; as well as consultancies and short courses. The
new mission of the center is to become one of the top references in
Water Conservation and Sustainable Use in Latin America.
Due to the imminent new mission, the Centro de Estudios del Agua is
expanding and offers various Assistant/Associate Professor vacancies
in Water Sciences, to be filled tentatively between January and August
2009, as well as new laboratories. The candidates are expected to
entail lecturing (6 hours per week approximately), research (project
sale, supervision and development), paper publication and thesis
supervision duties at graduate level (Msc and PhD). The research areas
of interest are:
Integrated Water Resources Management / Basin Water Management
Environmental flow assessment
Urban Hydraulics
Administration of Public Water Agencies
Isotope Hydrology / Groundwater Modeling / Hydrogeology
Water Quality / Sanitation
Water Technologies / Innovation for the Industry
Hydroinformatics / Water GIS
Water Education and Culture
Water and Health
Agricultural Water Use
Our candidates will be: 1) motivated, active, communicative
researchers who are willing to play a leading role in their research
area, 2) equipped with a PhD degree plus a proven track record of work/
teaching experience and research in their respective research area
(minimum 5 recent papers in indexed journals for the Assistant
Professor level), 3) experienced in attracting research grants to
sustain ongoing research, 4) dominating very well (written and spoken)
Spanish and English language, 5) are (interdisciplinary) team players,
6) have work experience in Latin America.
The position is a full-time faculty position with 5 weeks vacations
per year. The monthly net pay is approximately 30,000-35,000 Mexican
Pesos (US$ 3,000-3,500) for an Assistant Professor, depending on
