How does one drill small holes (ie. less than1/8" in diameter and about
2" deep) into a piece of quartz? We want to mount a tiny doll on a
quartz rock by inserting a small brass rod into the
quartz as a mounting rod for the doll.

I tried a masonry bit but it barely raised dust, then broke. A hardware
rep told me to not bother with a titanium drill bit.

Thanks.

Ian-

Use a diamond drill bit. My local rock shop sells a 2mm diamond drill
bit for $3 USD

A masonry bit should do the trick. Apply some water or drilling oil
to aid in cooling and dust control. Make sure the bit is not turning
at a high rate of speed. What size of bit are you using?

A multispeed Dremel with a number 60 (.040") or so size drill bit might work.
