The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has been very kind in providing access
to their on-line catalog (despite its warts) but they complain that
that service is getting out of hand. Unlike the other quake finger
servers, which all have direct links to the Internet, the link to
tako.wr.usgs.gov is via a 14.4 kbps PPP dialup from USGS Menlo Park. It
doesn't take too many finger accesses to impose a real burden on that
line. Worse, every finger costs HVO money. HVO's telecomm cost is now
about $2500/month, all because people are vaguely amused by being able
to check in real time what seismicity is happening under the Big
Island.

I you must see earthquakes as they happen, at least finger some machine
with a direct Internet connection, like gldfs.cr.usgs.gov or
scec2.gps.caltech.edu. Please don't keep fingering poor tako unless you
have a specific interest in Big Island seismicity.
