Hello,

First post here. During my search for a high-resolution background image for a map of the United States, I ran into this image:

http://www.primap.com/MapCollection/en/Free/Map%20USA%20Satellite%20+%20Borders%204000x2598.PNG

To accurately overlay other information on this background, I need to know what projection this image is based on. Then I can convert random latitude/longitude coordinates into x/y coordinates for the map, and vice versa.

I have contacted the seller of the image and expressed my interest in licensing the map for my project, once I understand the projection details. Unfortunately I don't think he understands what I am looking for, and I don't know how to explain it any differently.

Therefore, maybe somebody here can help me with either of the following:

(1) Reverse-engineer the projection used for this image, or

(2) Point me at a source of a similar image for which the projection is known.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kind regards,
Martin
