The scientist at the heart of the climate change scandal was under growing pressure to quit last
night.
George Monbiot, a leading environmentalist, said Phil Jones should resign from the Climatic
Research Unit over leaked emails that appear to show researchers suppressed scientific data.
More emails came to light yesterday, including one in which an American climatologist admitted it
was a travesty that scientists could not explain a lack of global warming in recent years.
In another note, UK researchers dismissed the work of scientists challenging global warming as
'crap'.
Another appeared to call for pressure on the BBC after a reporter suggested that evidence for
rising temperatures since 2001 was thin.
In one of the most damning messages, Professor Jones appeared to respond to the death of a climate
sceptic with the words 'in an odd way this is cheering news!'.
The leak has been a huge embarrassment to the climate unit at the University of East Anglia, which
is a global leader in its field.
Although there is no hint of evidence that climate change is not real, the emails appear to show
researchers manipulating raw data and discussing how to dodge Freedom of Information requests.
Yesterday, Mr Monbiot, who writes on green issues, said the emails could scarcely be more damaging.
'I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I'm dismayed and deeply shaken,' he said. 'There are
some messages that require no spin to make them look bad.
'There appears to be evidence of attempts to prevent scientific data from being released, and even
to destroy material that was subject to a Freedom of Information request.
'Worse still, some of the emails suggest efforts to prevent the publication of work by climate
sceptics, or to keep it out of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
'The head of the unit, Phil Jones, should now resign. Some of the data discussed in the emails
should be re-analysed.'
Bob Ward, a climate expert at the London School of Economics and Political Science, demanded an
independent inquiry.
'From what I've seen of the emails, there's not been any new questions raised about the way papers
have been put together, but there should be an re-examination of the emails,' he said.
The emails - which appeared last week on a Russian website - appear to have been stolen from a
university computer server.

Yesterday, Professor Jones refused to quit and denied that researchers had altered evidence to
bolster the case for man-made climate change.
He added: 'We absolutely stand by the science we produce here at the University of East Anglia and
it has been peer reviewed and published.
'Some of the emails probably had poorly chosen words and were sent in the heat of the moment, when
I was frustrated. I do regret sending some of them. We've not deleted any emails or data here at
CRU.
'I would never manipulate the data one bit - I would categorically deny that.' The university is
to conduct an independent review of data security and on its response to 60 freedom of information
requests over a short period.
? At least half the 36 UK officials and ministers travelling to the climate change talks in
Copenhagen are going by air rather than by rail.
The Liberal Democrats said the arrangements showed up Labour's hypocrisy on green issues.
The Government said officials had meetings that limited their travel options next month.

Quit? he should be FIRED!! And DISGRACED!! The man's a total fraud. This
isn't the first time he's been caught. The infamous "hockey stick" paper
he was able to pass off as his simple incompetence. He should have been
sacked then as either a idiot or fraud.

In REAL science, if the hypothesis fails to predict, you REJECT it. These
commie bastards want to use it to gut the US economy and tax the hell out
of Americans.

That kind of "crap" has been the bread and butter of the AGW frauds for
two decades now. No facts, no data, no science but lots of name calling
and slander.

They mean one of the biggest damned frauds of an institution on the
planet. They're a disgrace. A blot on the name of science.

Some?! We have the evidence in hand that he intentionally DISTORTED the
data and encouraged others to do so!!
The entire CRU and those affiliated with their temp reconstructions
barred and blacklisted.
At least! This is a disgrace against science. It was obvious that the
science was bullshit, and so few scientist spoke up against it.
Considering it was a MASSIVE CRIMINAL FRAUD to extort research money for
themselves and to extort money against the United States, they should be
put on trial for economic terrorism against the United States.
Long prison time is definitely needed. The violation of the public trust
these POSERS committed is just unforgivable.
What you post is not scientific nor environmental. There is no cover up
but there are a few writers to this newsgroup and blogs making a lot
of claims with no validity concerning science.Lets see now, papers peer
reviewed and published. Some of the scientists miffed and say bad
things about the oil and coal shills attempts to destroy their
science.Their emails stolen and their anger at the shills revealed.
Can dirty coal and oil win?If they do we all lose. You must remember
that dirty coal and oil will invade your country and destroy it if you
stand in its way.Well at this time we have a world on the brink of
disaster and they are relentless in any attempt to stop them from
increasing their CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Copenhagen

Nov. 24th, 2009
The ‘Copenhagen Diagnosis‘, a report by 26 scientists from around the
world was released today. The report is intended as an update to the
IPCC 2007 Working Group 1 report. Like the IPCC report, everything in
the Copenhagen Diagnosis is from the peer-reviewed literature, so
there is nothing really new. But the report summarizes and highlights
those studies, published since the (2006) close-off date for the IPCC
report, that the authors deemed most relevant to the negotiations in
Copenhagen (COP15) next month. This report was written for policy-
makers, stakeholders, the media and the broader public, and has been
sent to each and every one of the COP15 negotiating teams throughout
the world.
Among the points summarized in the report are that:
The ice sheets are both losing mass (and hence contributing to sea
level rise). This was not certain at the time of the IPCC report.
Arctic sea ice has declined faster than projected by IPCC.
Greenhouse gas concentrations have continued to track the upper bounds
of IPCC projections.
Observed global temperature changes remain entirely in accord with
IPCC projections, i.e. an anthropogenic warming trend of about 0.2 ºC
per decade with superimposed short-term natural variability.
Sea level has risen more than 5 centimeters over the past 15 years,
about 80% higher than IPCC projections from 2001.
Perhaps most importantly, the report articulates a much clearer
picture of what has to happen if the world wants to keep future
warming within the reasonable threshold (2°C) that the European Union
and the G8 nations have already agreed to in principle.
The full report is available at www.copenhagendiagnosis.org. Three of
us at RealClimate are co-authors so we can’t offer an independent
review of the report here. We welcome discussion in the comments
section though. But read the report first before commenting, please.
As I see it, the UAH could show any month with
a negative anomaly relative to the past 30 year baseline.
That seems to make any alarmism strictly lunacy.

Here. I fixed it for you.
What would be the German for "tarred and feathered"?
And so you fuck up the data like the rest of conservo world
Take your fucking fantasy and shove it up your ass

•• Pissypants is pretty hysteric, don't you think?
Yes. But then, so many people are emotionally invested in the man made
global warming fraud.
This revelation of fraud threatens the whole AGW Fraud industry.
Many of the posers pretending to be scientist have a big financial
interest in the scam. They could end up unemployed.
Their sycophants, who don't know science at all and didn't see that the
AGW story was non-science, staked their egos on this. They were going to
save the world by spreading the word of their gospel. Now it is all lies.
They don't want to believe it; their entire social structure is built
around this junk science and hating America.
So yeah, they're hysterical.
> Take your fucking fantasy and shove it up your ass
You tell him, "richp".
Obama said it. We believe it. That's all there is to it!
Amen.
I do. He certainly doesn't much sound like your "peer-reviewed"
scientific data to me.
Obviously he has nothing credible to add to this discussion.
•• And what about the cherry picked cherry tree rings
posted by the Royal Society that it took a court
order to see?

like all good fascists, to acquiescence

•• Typical fascist cover-up. You must understand they
have a lot to lose when they are defeated.

•• The writer was right and the pressure came from
another fascist ghoul

•• That means that he did not know what was
going on, bu't he was defending his staff

•• ROTFLMAO—
The issue is scientific/environmental fraud;

•• Why are you painting yourself into a very tight
corner? The perps could get several years hard
time in an UK gaol.
>Lets see now,papers peer

•• the center of the issue rises from Mike Mann from
Penn State and Keith Briffa from East Anglia
whose Hockey Stick II was published by the Royal
Society without the data so —
1- It cannot be peer reviewed,
2- The scientist that first debunked Hockey Stick I
Stephen McIntyre was on their trail.
3- The Royal Society has a strict rule that the data
must be produced with the paper in 4 or more
copies. So McIntyre sued the RS for the data, so
the Society forced Briffa to produce.
•• When the data was produced, McIntyre analysed it
and quickly found that it was a cherry picked fraud

•• How can they be miffed, when they are the shills
that tried break the coal industry?

•• No matter, McIntyre broke it open, and the emails
will just confirm it. If they had nothing to hide,
why were they hiding it?

•• ROTFLMAO— All of the CO2 emissions and
several multiples of CO2 from elsewere all end up
on or in the ground where it becomes fertilizer—
that's right fertilizer.
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants
produce organic compounds and *oxygen* from
*carbon dioxide* and water.
Photosynthesis is a process that converts carbon
dioxide into organic compounds, especially
sugars, using the energy from sunlight.
Photosynthesis occurs in plants, algae, and many
species of bacteria. All use water and carbon
dioxide as initial substrates and release oxygen as
a waste product.
