I recently purchased a Nikon Auto Level AP-3.I'm not a builder or civil
engineer or anything, just want to use it for fences, basic landscaping etc.
etc. but i've no instructions on using it. Am i correct in presuming that i
place in on the tripod, and adjust the 3 feet on the auto level itself until
the bubble is central when the head is swivelled right around? And there's a
plum bob with it. What do i do with that? Any help would be appreciated,
maybe a scan of the instructions, or any links to relevant web sites that
may help. Thanks in advance.

You've got the basic idea for setting up the level. The plumb bob is for
setting up over a known point - I've never really been sure why most levels
come with a plumb line, I'm sure most just stay in the box until they get
lost.

For the instructions on use...type differential leveling
into google...or any search engine.

As was pointed out, the plumb bob is for setting the instrument over a
point. If your level is equipped with a horizontal circle(a round metal
ring on the base), you can measure or set out angles. You did not say
whether your AP3 had such a feature, so this may not apply.
