Has anyone used citric acid to clean and remove light scale and rust from
304L stainless steel after 1000F stress relief? If so, how did it work?
any problems? any good sources of information on the subject that I can
review? Thanks

I've never heard of using citric acid, but a general purpose soldering
flux may give you what you're looking for. While soldering some parts
that had been stress relieved at 1075F, some of the flux ran down one of
the parts leaving a clean, bright, surface behind. I know it's not
citric acid but it is a way to get a clean, bright, surface using a mild
acid.
