I have been shopping around for a decently priced auto darkening welding
helmet, and after browsing the newsgroups, it looks as if Jackson was a
pretty popular model.

Any comments on the Jackson Journeyman EQC Variable HTLS model? This
has a variable shade lens with a slider on the inside of the lens to set
it from 9 to 12. I found it for $139.00 on the web and wanted to know
if anyone has used it and how well it works or doesn't work before I
purchased it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have a EQC-Htls variable and love it. I'm a full time electrician / part
time
welder ( I end up fabricating on the job). My hood spends it's life in my
truck getting cooked in the summer and frozen in the winter(northern
Illinois)
and has never failed me. I paid $180.00, fourteen months ago.

I have a Jackson EQC. I think it said Executive or something. It has
the big window. I love it!

After about 3 or 4 years it's running on the original batteries. I
thought the shelf life of batteries was shorter than that..

Hi Terry,

I have the Jackson EQC Variable HTLS. I've had it for about 1.5
years now and love it. I have had to change the batteries in it only
once. For me that's good because I'll sometimes leave it face up on
my workbench directly facing bright fluorescent lights which keeps it
on and in dark state.

I'll take it any day over a large window 10 shade filter. It has been
in 20 to 110 degree weather, dropped at least 30 times, and left on
because of the fluorescent light thing I mentioned for long periods.
I paid $189.00 for mine.

Good luck,
JP

Thanks for the great info. I put this helmet on my Valentines gift wish
list. I think my wife will get it for me this time. Didn't get it on my
B-day nor Christmas, but she's been asking about it so I think its
coming.

Thanks again,

Terry

I have the Jackson Master Variable model with the middle sized lens.
My only regret is that I didn't spend a few more dollars and buy the
Executive model with the larger lens (2.5: x 3.375"). I have glasses
with graduated lenses and look through the top part for finding what I
am supposed to weld and through the bottom part to watch the little,
wee, tiny TIG puddle.

Harold .... try a 1 1/2 or 2 x magnifier lens in your helmet if it will
fit... that wee, tiny puddle can get big enough to see.... (-:
