A Sioux Falls man who fled to Omaha to avoid prosecution for rape
charges involving a 9-year-old relative will spend 25 years in prison.
Ruben Garcia, 32, was sentenced Monday for first-degree rape.
Prosecutors said he put his hand in the girl's underwear while his two
daughters were in the same room.
In court, Minnehaha County State's Attorney Aaron McGowan played a video
of the girl recounting the February incident to an investigator at
Child's Voice in Sioux Falls. She said it felt "dirty" and that the man
told her to shower when she started bleeding.
Garcia then cleaned up the mess with a towel and threw away the towel
and the girl's bloody clothing in two different trash cans, McGowan said.
Garcia admitted his behavior the day he was caught, McGowan said.
