Hello all,

I'm looking for an application to convert spectral data (from wine
samples) into
CIElab color parameters. Searching the web, I came across a site that
mentions
the work of Mr. Timo Autiokari as a good source of info on the
subject. Unfortunately, the links mentioned in that site aren't
working
(http://www.aim-dtp.net/aim/technology/aim_xla/index.htm; http://www.aim-dtp.net/).

I'd really appreciate if you could direct me to another site, or give
me any reference of how can I get a file with the appropriate
functions, or instructions on how to do such a conversion.

Thanks a lot,

Felipe

Just about every spectrometer that I've used has a basic color
conversion function, so you may want to ask your equipment
manufacturer's technical support first.

If you don't have technical support, you can use any spreadsheet
software (e.g. MS Excel) to calculate CIELAB yourself. The wikipage for
CIELAB provides the equations for calculating CIELAB from CIEXYZ:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lab_color_space

To calculate CIEXYZ from spectral data:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIE_1931_color_space

You can get the CIE 1931 x-bar, y-bar, and z-bar color matching function
data from:

http://www.cvrl.org/

select CMF tab on left side and select a CIE 1931 2-deg dataset.

You can go to <http://www.brucelindbloom.com/> and click on the first
button titled "calc" to reach a page with useful calculations. Click
on "Spectral Calculator Spreadsheets" and dowload the appropriate one
for your spectral data. This can convert your spectral data to CIELAB.
