Just think about how much energy is needed to harvest biomass, transport it and
then grind it up fine enough to use?
As far I understand BTL are not so energy intensive as fermentation
processes (being a combustion process), neither they need any particural
food crops, indeed they can accept any "waste" biomass, no need to harvest
new dedicated plants (particurally, together the development of electric and
plug-in vehicles); moreover, they can use the whole plant and not part of
it, for example the starch for corn ethanol
