Does anyone know where I can find the schematics to build a phone line
simulator? So far, the lowest price I could find to purchase one is $80.
Surely, I could build one for much less!
Thanks!

I posted one 6 or 8 weeks ago, and I'll do so again. There's no ring
generator, however, just the line voltage and some transformers to get audio
in and out without the DC. I connected phones using this circuit for all sorts
of testing at one time.

The transformers, and the circuit, BTW, are Microtran. Their data sheets have
the circuit on them.

I'll post them later today as a UU(Zip(postscript)) unless you can accept the
postscript via E-mail.

I could SWEAR that I saw a "How To ......" article in Radio/
Electronics a few months back. Look in recent copies in local
library. If I stumble into it, will email.

The summer '94 issue of The Electronics Experimenter's Handbook magazine
has an
article on page 32 to build a phone line simulator. I believe the same
article also ran in the same mag in the summer of '93.

It shows a schematic that looks pretty simple, but uses a proprietary
ring generator. I have one and it works great. I use it to test out
some pc based voice mail software I am writing. This device lets me
"call" my pc without actually having a second phone line, or actually,
without using any phone line.

The complete kit is listed for $79.95, but I don't know if it is still
available. That's still 80 bucks, but maybe the schematic will help you
in your design.

I bought one from Graybar, it's a model DLE-200A and was made by Viking
Electronics. The price was less than a hundred. It rings regular 2500
Bells sets Ok, but the dial tone sounds a bit raspy. It's about the size
of a pack of cigarettes, but that doesn't include the AC adapter. If you
can get one for $80, buy it. That's cheap.

Hey, Bob. Email me a copy of the schematics, too, if possible and you
don't mind. Thanks. I'd like to check them out.

Could you all please post the circuit (if it is really that simple and
doesn't need too much bandwith) here or at least announce a pointer to
an appropriate FTP-site. I am sure that's of general interest and saves
you from mailing to a hundred people.

Thanks in advance,

Christian.
