Thank you for your response to our INTERNET posting regarding the
above equipment which we are selling due to a consolidation in our
cardio-vascular research projects and imaging operations.
Prices are as shown and in many cases are as low as ten percent of
original manufacturers selling price. In other words a DRF-400 ultrasound
system that sold new for $65,000. would be sold by us for $6500.00. Some
items may be higher or lower than this illustration. Quantity discounts
will be negotiated.
The equipment is all set up and operating at our facility and we would
welcome your visit and inspection of any items of interest. We have
many items that may not be included on the list so be sure to mention any
items you may be looking for.
If you have any questions or to receive a firm quote please call or
contact me via the INTERNET at 'ad...@detroit.freenet.org ' or via
commercial carrier at 'gill...@aol.com ' -or- ' ultr...@delphi.com'
All equipment is offered subject to prior sale, F.O.B., Detroit, MI

Did someone request it ?
I don't have anything against this particular poster, but it serves as
a good example ..
Sci.electronics is pretty tolerant of commercial postings, but gratuitous
postings of equipment for sale seems to be both on the increase and, in my
view, stretching the point a little.
Personally, I'm quite happy to read individual's forsale ads, recommendations
of specific equipment in response to other postings, group buys and even
hobbyist-special items like the various PIC and HC11 development boards.
I'd rather that most of what I read here was technical discussion though,
rather than the adpages of a trade magazine.
If I want to pay commercial prices for commercially useful equipment, I'm
inclined to look in the telephone directory for dealers - this newsgroup
would have to be filled with postings before there was a reasonable chance
of finding just the equipment I was looking for at the time I want.
An email server sending lists of equipment on demand (as this post appears
to have been intended) would be a much more friendly way to offer goods
for sale.
Perhaps I'm just being a nitpicker, and most readers are a great deal
more tolerant. Any opinions of where the line is for sci.electronics ?
Anybody want a sci.electronics.mart especially for this sort of thing ?
-adrian
Adrian brings up some very good points -
Maybe it is time for a sci.electronics.fleamarket
I have absolutely no interest in med gear, but see no reason against
posting the advert. While North America and the UK are very well
served by trade magazines (once you get on the mailing lists, its
hernia time for the postie) the more far flung bits of the world are
far less well catered for. While usenet is meant to be non commercial,
the odd bit of trading does no harm (where else could you get to hear
about Wes's LASERS-R-US offerings). I personally have done quite a bit
of horsetrading, almost always to the mutual benefit of both parties.
OK, the odd person pops up wanting to sell nuclear material, a few
scrappy old parts or 53,000 of something (honest, its a hobby) but these
deviations are harmless, and far worse are the netcops who scream blue
murder about commercial postings.
Anyone interested in a S.E.fleamarket ?
cheers
Mike.
