Hi,
I'm looking for a source for both plastic and glass fiberoptic
strands. They don't need to be of that great of quality, just
relatively cheep and available in bulk. I'm planning on using them
in a project to distribute light from LEDs into interesting paterns
for some art pieces I want to do. I'd prefer to use glass, but if
glass is cost prohibitive I'll use plastic to save money. Thank you
for your time and help.

You can get 1mm plastic light guides from quite a lot of sources (try
DigiKey etc.)....these work moderately well. Cut the end with a very
sharp knife at 90degress, stip off about 3mm of plastic cladding, and
away you go...

it can be found in the back of most electronic or science

The 1mm plastic type is best for your application as the glass stuff
only gives out a pin point of light. We use 50/125um glass fibre at
work and when doing a quick check to see if there is any light
emerging, you need to cup your hand around the fibre just to see it.
