How could I generate an RF signal for video with a simple adjustable circuit?
I'd like to see what visual pattern (if any) I can create on the tv screen...

Will this even work?

Thanks

You really need to be more specific. There are many ways of getting
video into a TV or VCR. You can go baseband - direct video input
without using RF. You can rip an RF modulator out of a Comodore
computer or buy one at Radio Shack (I think). Or, you can use any VCR
to do the RF modulation.

First, you need the composite video signal though. How do you intend
to get that?

Just make a simple dipole antennae system that oscillates in the
broadcasting bandwidth. A few watts power would be fine for a couple
hundred feet. Be careful not to disturb others.
