I have a problem with SAA1099 (Philips stereo generator)
chip. When I apply a voltage to the chip, the chip generates
a lot of heat. The rest of pins are open (did not connect to
anything) except Vdd and Vss.
Is it in a normal condition? I have three same chips and all
of them behave like this. My guess is that the chip itself is
short circuited internally.
I appreciate for any help.

Hello Patrick
I'm sorry, because I can't help you !
But, perhaps you can help me ?
I'm searching a stereo encoder Integrated Circuit. I know it exits
the Rohm's BA1404, but difficult to find in France.
So, what kind of IC is the Philips 's SAA1099 ? Does it generate the
stereo multiplex (Left-Right), (Left+Right), 19 Khz, ..... from the Left and
Right input signals ?
Thanks for your answers !
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !

Yes. It meets your spec. However, the part is obsolete. I got it
from my friend so I don't know where you can buy it.
Try to caontact Philips. Maybe they have a new part to replace
it. I have not tried it yet, so let me know what they say.
Happy New Year!!
