VCR Plus - How does it work.

Ok, I have a VCR plus hand unit which works fine. However we now have
some new channels available to us and the TV guide(s) don't have all the
necessary codes.
Is there anyway I can work out the codes so that maybe I can write a pgm
to take time and channel info and chuck out the appropriate VCR plus code.

Of course I wouldn't be supprised if the 'encryption algorythm' is top
secret, but I'm sure someone must have cracked it.
