I recently needed to replace a couple of 2032s in 2 Pent166 Mboards
and one in a digital watch.
I was surprised to learn that here that they retail for about US2.30
(AU $6) and some places charge considerably more.
I decided to look for a cheaper way to get some, and I see that I can
import them from taiwan in lots of 1000 for US$44 (Four cents each)...
<interesting..>
I bought a boxful of faulty "keyfinders" from a local electronics
gizmo/junk shop for $2 and now have 16 new 2032s. (for $2)
I hate being ripped off.

Well, they might not be 'new'.

The $2.30 price is the grocery store price right?

Here in the US, they go for $2.99 for the 'name brand' types at your typical
walk in store, but mail order from electronics shops I've been paying around
$0.39 for them if I buy ten. These are new 'fresh' maxell, sony or sanyo brand.

If you think 3 or 4 bucks is a rip off, try to buy some lithium batteries
for a Minolta maxxim camera. Try around $10.

Bob,
What's the part # for those batteries?

I've been buy Sanyo or Maxell brand CR2, CR123 batteries for around $2.00 each.

Firstly, the shop batteries, will be individually packed and date stamped.
Now on these batteries, the discharge rate from handling with greasy
fingers, can easily exceed the discharge from the circuitry. If the shops
were to start selling the 'bulk boxed' batteries, the failure rate would
become massive. It is also suprisingly common to have entire boxes 'bad'
even from well known manufacturers when buying in the large quantities (I
have had a couple of boxes like this - the suspicion was that they had
been massively overheated somewhere in shipping).
In the shops, generally they have a 'supplier' deal, where the supplying
company, will automatically replace stock that is over about one year old,
with fresher batteries (start to think of the cost of doing all this as
well)
Now my prices are 'UK', but the ratios etc., should be about the same. All
are for CR2032.
Single battery individually wrapped £1.53.
Same battery/wrapping in 100off £1.34.
'Bulk' batteries in 100off £0.74.
'Bulk' batteries in 5000off £0.31.
You can see that the 'biggest jump', is between the individually bubble
wrapped, and 'loose' packaged version. This is the pricing difference you
are seeing. I hope you wore gloves when you removed the 2032's from the
'keyfinders', otherwise the shelf life will be significantly reduced...

Best Wishes

Well, the minolta batteries are 2cr5 6 volt photo batteries. Since the cameras
have every electronic gizmo on them including power zoom and focus, they suck
at lot of juice. 7 or 8 bucks US is about as good as it gets.

The CR123's are usually around 5 or 6 dollars US. I occasionally find a
wholesaler such as the house of deals that have them for 3 or 4 dollars US. My
wife's small cameras takes these.

While we are on the subject of button batteries...

About 8 years ago I bought at Hobby Lobby (an arts & crafts chain)
a couple of blister packs of button cells made by Vinnic.
Each pack had 10 cells of the same size and they offered several
(3?) popular sizes. I paid $1.99(US) a pack.

Hobby Lobby stopped carrying them sometime after that and
I haven't seen them since.

After paying that low of a price, it just hurts to pay
$2+ a cell at Radio Shack or Target.

Anyone else seen these bargains?
Sometimes I buy broken electronics at Goodwill just to get
the button cells.

My 'wholesale' price on the 2CR5 is $2.69 in the Sanyo brand, carded.
Don't know how it compares in life to duracell or energizer.

FYI, 2032 lithium coin cells 'wholesale' (all are carded individual resale
packages)

Maxell $0.44
Duracell $0.82

They carry a lot of accessory type items.

Thanks for the reminder. I have a DBL catalog, and they do have good prices on
them. The prices seem to have come down some since the last time i looked at them.
