VSS,VDD,VCC

for many years i have seen these symbols used
in cct diagrams and have never found out what
they mean.(i know they are supply & ground symbols)
i was once told Vss="voltage super source"
but am at a loss for the others,any ideas?????

I do not know what the abbreviation stands for, but
VDD and VCC -- power supply
VSS -- ground.

Voltage Drain-Drain, Voltage Collector-Collector, Voltage
Source-Source (as in Source/Drain/Collector for the FETs used to build the
CMOS for today's ICs.)

Leastwise, that's what I remember ...

It's fairly straightforward, actually.

V means voltage (but you guessed that, right ;-))

Now, for a bipolar transistor, Vc = collector voltage, Ve=emitter
voltage, Vb=base voltage.

For an Fet, Vd=drain voltage, Vs=source voltage, Vg=gate votlage.

Now, for the _supply_ voltages for those electrodes (as opposed to the
voltages actually present on them), you double up the suffix letter.

So Vcc = Collector supply voltage (=+ve supply in most bipolar circuits)
Vee = emitter supply voltage (when this isn't the same as ground, like on
ECL chips)
Vdd = Drain supply voltage
Vss = Source supply voltage

Etc...
