Recently, I replaced the three belts in this unit
because they were stretched, and the unit failed
to operate. I also retimed the mode switch. The
camcorder worked fine for 2 days... Then, it
started to have problems recording.
Now, whenever I record something, and play it
back, There are patches of static, something like
5 or 6 every second... Is there anything i can do
to fix this problem??? Any help or guidance would
be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Matthew McDougal

I am not too familiar with your unit, but I would investigate the
control track heads and servo drive to the capston. This would be a
bit more involved than what you can do at home unless you had the test
gear, training, and necessary skills to get this deep...

It may be that the capstan belt is slipping due to light grease on the
rotor.

Take it apart again, remove the three screws on the right side of the plate
covering the loading gears, gently lift the right side, remove the reel belt
then the capstan belt. (This will allow you access without disturbing the
phase of the mode switch). With acetone on a Q-tip clean the capstan rotor,
capstan pulley & the inside of the flat belt. This problem is not too common
ant more, but I overlook it about 10 years ago, spent a lot of time in the
servo circuit, then found the obvious problem, kicked myself & never will
forget it.
