Hello all:

I have a hi8mm Canon camcorder. Recently I discovered that when I play a
prerecorded tape in it, 1/4 of the screen at the bottom becomes noise, and
the picture shakes twice every second. I tried every tape I have, always
the same result. I would think the transport mechanism is at fault here.
Anyone familiar with this problem and hopefully knows how this should be
fixed?

Thanks!

Michael

Hello Mike,
The tape guides that wrap the tape around the video head have loosened & are
no longer in alignment. Canon's depending on the mechanism & model can be
difficult to access the locking screws for the tape guides. Suggest taking
to a GOOD camcorder shop for repair, ask friends for references if possible.
Don't try it yourself, if you have a UC series camcorder its very easy to
damage flex cables getting in & out.

Thank you, Tim, for responding. Yes, mine is a UC-1 (or maybe UC-2, I am
not sure). I looked and I think the tape guide is pretty easy to access
with the cover that's over the the tape loading case. Thanks for the
warning about the flex cable (What is it by the way?).

Michael

Flexible cables are flat ribbons (brown in your unit) that are the same as a
wire bundle except that are in a ribbon form.
BE CAREFUL
