I picked up a used Toshiba VCR, model M-6550. No owners manual. There is a
feature I can't figure out. It is a 3 position slide switch on the front
panel with the following markings. HQ+WBF/Edit/HQ. Can anyone help? This
model appears to have the same functionality as the model M-6555 in that the
both list the same part # for the service manual but they list different
part #'s for the owners manual.

Thanks

Greg,
First, please always include a legitimate e-mail address, as often a
question is very specific, and I'd rather answer it directly rather than
waste everyone's time.

According to my DX-900 owner's manual:
PICTURE SELECT Switch
(HQ+WBF/EDIT/HQ)

HQ+WBF: When recording in this position, enabling a distinct picture for
recording and playback. We recommend this position for recording.

EDIT: Set in this position when copying

HQ: For recording in areas where the broadcast signal is weak, this
position may improve picture quality. Also, when snow occures during
playback set to this position.

There it is as printed, including the incomplete thought in the HQ+WBF
section and misspelling of occurs. I believe that the 'WBF' is a Wide
Band Filter of some sort. In practice, I've never noticed any
difference. If this machine is as nice as the DX-900, then it is a
keeper.

Regards,
Tim Schwartz

Thanks for the info.

Sorry about the email. Too much junk mail in the past so I changed it. I
have changed it to legit address if you take out the "nospam"'s

You don't need a service manual to clean the video heads.
Is the symptom a snowy picture with some of the picture showing
in the snow?

This thread is from 2002, and isn't about your model.

So why in the world are you replying to a 12 year old message?

If you have something to say, start a proper thread.

Well at least this thread reminded me that UI have forgotten what WBF means. the W stands for White something, and it was part of the HW system to enhance VHS recording to make it closer to as good as beta.

And you think the poster of a 20 year old post is going to still be
waiting for your question?
