FISHER DAC-6005 60 Disc CD Changer

I normally don't service CD players, but a relative talked me
into checking/fixing his. I made observations with the cover
off. The CD turntable will rotate bringing the CD into position
to be transferred to the CD player. The motor and gear assembly
for that function continuously runs, but the CD is not moved from
the turntable into the CD player. I can see the gears turning,
but a special gear that is not solid (can't think of the term for
this type of gear) is not engaging with the rotating gear. Also
there is a "M-ERROR" message on the display panel. NOTE: I did
follow the procedure in the owner's manual, "Corrective Action"
for this type of error, but it did not work.

The CD is not being moved from the turntable into the CD
player. From what I can see, nothing looks damaged, but I did
not completely disassemble the turntable. This unit is very
clean and in "new" condition.

Have you encountered this problem with this model CD player?

Please, if it isn't too much trouble, also forward your reply
to me direct. My News server is problematic and many times I
can't access this NG.

Thank You,
John Augustine

Available from a SFS parts distributor as Sanyo parts is no longer selling
direct even to authorized servicers.
tritronicsinc.com is one good source.
Also if the unit loads in by motor from the front you will want to replace 2
of those gears once you get the unit apart. These clutch slip gears that
break are pretty much the first parts that are installed on the big plastic
frame and almost everything else must be removed in order to install them.
Then the rotory platter alignment must be correct, it must turn freely
without "bumping"

Steve,
believe that the recommended procedure is to replace both the cam gear
(which usually breaks into 3 pieces) and it's adjacent drive gear. Both of
which have been modified by Sanyo/Fisher to ensure proper meshing. Also
don't forget to clean/relube the whole mess while you have it apart.
