GE TV remote control

I own a 20 y. o. GE TV, model #25PP5859K. [It was built in Nov. 1984.]
The original GE remote control <that came with this set> just broke.
I'd like to find some replacement but I'm concerned about the special
programming feature of the old remote. I figure that modern remotes
may not have the special programming feature of my old, now broken
remote. [The special programming feature sets up the TV for the free,
broadcast-type stations in some geographic area.]

Do modern remotes have GE type TV programming or will this not be
possible to find? [Apparently my GE TV cannot be programmed without
the remote.] Can any new remote be somehow tuned to the frequencies
and code combinations (or whatever they are) of the old remote?

Any other tips or advice for me?

There's no way to do any channel programming without the original remote, which
is no longer available, but last sold for $116.90. A multibrand will work on
the set, but you can't program the channels, but can still push the number keys
to select the channels.
