1) does anyone out there know what the D207 zener is?
2) anyone familiar with these power supplies? Is this failure just a
symptom of something
else gone wrong?

I just had an SLV555 in my shop the other day with a dead
powersupply. I looked at it and saw that it would not be cost
effective to fix it. If I must spend more than about 1.5 hours on
this at my rate the labour approaches the price of a complete new
supply that I can pass on the warrenty if it quits.
I paid about $79.00 US including all taxes and delivery to me for a
complete new supply with a 90 day warrenty. I charged the customer
$99.00 for the complete job. The total work time including the phone
call was 20 minutes. He was very happy. To buy this VCR it is about
$300.00 here in Canada, so he thought it was worth it...
