VCR recording problems

Hi, I got a Magnavox model VRT242 4-head VCR. Every time I rerecord
over a tape, something happens: the video quality goes down. Granted I
got a attena, but but still...

Anyone out there got an idea what I can do. Its a powered aphlified
attena. I can't get cable. (No it's a money issue, besides I rent out
two small rooms...) I use high quality tapes. I just want to record TV
shows.

sounds like your erase head is dirty, try cleaning it with a dab of
windex on a lint free snag proof cloth.... you will see it just to the
left of your cylinder units...
