I need the service software to adjust either of the following 17"
monitors:

Digital VRT17GA
Sony GDM17SE1

It is for adjusting the color brightness levels which cannot be
adjusted otherwise.

Any help would greatly appreciated.

I have a program called CRTAT.EXE by step...@ix.netcom.com
I don't remember where I got it but is like a color bar generator.
Hope this helps!!

The software I need actually adjusts the color levels. They have left
out some of the hardware adjustment controls to save a few dollars.
Thanks anyway.

My favourite is NTest.exe, available from Noikia's (sp) homepage. It has
separate screens for linearity, convergence, V/H resolution, moire effect,
brightness and contrast, focus, readability, colour and stability tests
and adjustments. best of all, it's free!

Cheers,

Larry

Do you know a FTP site that has ntest.exe online? Sounds like a very versatile
program.

Obviously this thread is going in totally the wrong direction. What the
poor guy needs is specific software to connect to the non-standard serial
port on the monitor.

These ghastly things, which are now being inflicted on us poor engineers,
HAVE NO PRESET ADJUSTMENTS and *can only be adjusted with* a PC with
special hardware (possibly just a weird serial cable) and special software
provided by the monitor maker.

I don't reckon for a moment that these anti-environmental companies will
supply any technical help whatsoever. Dump your monitor in a landfill site.
Buy a new one instead. Repair companies often have to commit themselves to
being "approved repair agents" with all the hype and expense that entails,
before manufacturers will even talk to them. :(

Thanks David,

I was about to clarify this myself. There is NO way to adjust the
color balance on these monitors without the software. They have
eliminated the POTS normally used for these adjustments. I don't mind
the cost saving concept of eliminating hardware, but why make the
software so inaccessible? I have the required cable, but cannot find
the disk.

I am willing to pay MONEY for this disk if anyone can help with this
dilema.

The point is that each manufacturer has written a program for his monitor
to tweak things that we used to do with a screwdriver. It is model
specific, NOT GENERIC, and often requires an interface (special cable,
with or without circuitry in between) sometimes connecting to your
parallel port, sometimes to the serial.
Goldstar does this with a special proprietary software and special cable;
Viewsonic has (that cost me $220 - try to recoup that from a repair) and
it is so user unfriendly that you don't even know what to do with it.
We are definitely going in the wrong direction....
